The next decade is a transitional period that will redefine almost everything in our world. Technology, finance, and generational changes will play key roles. Where will Millennials and Gen Z take us? Toward rentierism or exterminism, capitalism or communism, feudalism or despotism?
The free-market liberalism that dominated our political and policy landscape for almost four decades has once again been discredited, echoing the economic, societal, and political fractures of the 1930s. However, the new global consensus on the best model for progress has yet to emerge, even as alternatives circulate widely in the discussion pool, each proffering untested legitimacy.
As in the 1930s, the landscape of the future is full of options, including global conflagrations and dictatorships. The Twilight Before the Storm examines how and where conflicts might arise, and suggests policies that might lower tensions and defang extremes. We have options. Will we exercise them in time to avoid a world on fire?
